The Galapagos Islands
Situated in the Pacific Ocean some 1,000 km from the South American continent, these islands and the surrounding marine reserve have been called a unique “living museum and showcase of evolution”.
The 120 islands are situated on the Galapagos Submarine Platform. The largest are Isabela, Santa Cruz, Fernandina, Santiago and San Cristobal.
The islands were formed by the ongoing seismic and the volcanic activity.
Here is a variety of animals; the fauna is characterized by invertebrate, reptile and bird species. These include the Galapagos giant tortoise, terrestrial iguanas, marine iguana, three racer species, numerous lizards of the genus and geckos.
We consider that is worth visiting these miracles of nature if you have the chance. You can’t miss it!
