Everyone has surely heard at least once about Rio de Janeiro. It is the most visited city in the southern hemisphere and it is known for many things, especially for the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer (named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World) and of course, the Rio Carnival.
First bouts of carnival celebrations go back as much at the beginning of the XVII century. The Entrudo, as it was first called, was based on crazy behavior, and throwing things of every kind one to the other. Nowadays, the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is starting out as a festival before the sombre mood of Lent and is considered one of the greatest shows on Earth.
It is Carnival all over the place, in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city of Rio and culminating in the Rio Carnival Parade also known as the Samba Parade, the highlight of this unique event.
People buy tickets every year to have a sit in the Sambodromo and watch the spectacular costumes and dancers. So hurry up, because the opening ceremony is on 4th of March.
